The National Autistic Society, the UK’s leading charity for people affected by autism, is asking people to show their support on World Autism Awareness Day (2nd April) and ‘stand up for autism’ by helping to raise awareness of the condition in their local community.
World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) was set up in 2007 by the United Nations to bring together autism organisations around the world and give a voice to the millions of individuals with the condition.
The National Autistic Society wants to see people across the country standing up for autism and highlighting how many people are personally affected by the condition. All too often autism is not properly understood and the needs of people affected by autism are not recognised. It is important to stand up and speak out about autism in order to gain the right level of help, support and understanding.
