Woman Assaulted in Lydney

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was assaulted in Lydney on Monday March 1.

The incident happened between 4.45pm and 5pm in Newerne Street.

The victim, a 17-year-old woman from Lydney, got off a bus from Gloucester and walked to the public toilets at the rear of Caplins Café.

She and another woman were then prevented from leaving the toilets as the door was being held shut from the outside by a group of five girls.

The victim managed to pull the door open and then visited the co-op; the same five girls were then waiting outside of the store.

As the victim walked towards Ruddy’s fish and chip shop, she was assaulted from behind. She was grabbed by the hair and slapped across the face.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident and in particular the second woman that was trapped inside the toilets.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information about it, is asked to contact Gloucestershire Constabulary on 0845 090 1234 quoting incident 361 of March 1. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

A 13-year-old girl from Lydney has been arrested on suspicion of assault. She has been bailed to return to Gloucester Police Station on March 22
