As part of their initiative to learn about environmental issues and improve their local community, The “Street Steppers” have planted trees at Finlay Community School.
Their involvement does not stop there as they will mentor younger children to help care for the new trees. They will then take on care of the trees when the present junior wardens leave for secondary school.
The junior wardens had previously met with Justin Hobbs, Landscape Officer from Gloucester City Council, to learn about the importance of trees and discuss where to plant them.
Twelve trees were planted along the main entrance and around the pergola area, this activity also involved other pupils in the school and was supported by Justin and other people involved in the scheme. Gloucester City Homes Resident Involvement Officer Sharon Goode, Caroline Esson from White City Venture, and PCSO Mark Jones were also present.
