SNOW INFORMATION

St John’s ambulance crew have leant the Great Western Ambulance Service three 4×4 vehicles to help it reach far-flung rural locations in the heavy snow.

Charity chief executive Jason Lugg said: “It is a challenging time for everyone but our volunteers are on standby, prepared for times like this and are pleased to be able to help.”

Message from Gloucestershire Police:

The A429 Fossebridge is currently closed due to a jack-knifed lorry blocking the road.

Princess Elizabeth Way is open now in both directions; however drivers using this route are advised to take caution.

Cleeve Hill is currently passable only to 4×4 vehicles.

Until the weather improves the message from Gloucestershire Police remains the same; do not head out on the roads unless it is essential that you do so.

Sergeant Chris Rawlings from the Roads Policing Unit said: “Our advice is to not use the roads unless you have to.

“If you must travel then the first thing I would always recommend is that you allow plenty of time to complete your journey. Trying to reach a destination within a tight time-scale, especially in poor weather conditions, increases stress and the potential for an incident.

“Drivers are also urged to prepare their vehicle and make sure it is in good condition before setting out. Make sure that you clear all the snow, ice and misting from your windscreen and other windows before starting to drive.

“Keep your speed steady and slow and remember that braking distances can more than double on wet or icy road surfaces.”
