Road Grit Only Works Down To Minus 10 Degrees!

The average temperature in the county last night was -10 degrees (Celcius) This was an average and in some areas it was much colder than that. When temperatures plummet below -7, grit become less effective. Below -10, grit has no effect at all.
Teams were out during yesterday and another complete grit run of all A and B roads in the central area took place at 7pm last night.
Cllr Stan Waddington, cabinet member for environment, said: “I completely understand people’s frustrations, but when we’re seeing temperatures as low as -17 no amount of gritting will make any difference.
he also added that whilst everything was being done to keep things moving people should not undertake non-essential journeys. If a journey is necessary then take extreme care, allow adequate time and thoroughly clear the vehicle of snow, ice and misting.
