Has your hairdryer blown a fuse, or maybe your kettle has gone off the boil? If the answer is yes, then your local school needs your help.
During Recycle Week (June 21st – 27th) people are being urged to take their unwanted small electrical items to the Household Recycling Centre and benefit a local school in the process.
For every small electrical item brought along to the HRC during Recycle Week, a token will be handed over.
This token, which has a unique code, can be awarded to any of the 34 Gloucestershire schools participating in the scheme.
The more tokens a school receives, the greater the chance of winning a regional or national prize of garden centre vouchers worth £500 or £1,000 respectively.
Cllr Stan Waddington, cabinet member for environment and waste said: “The main aim of Recycle Week is to highlight the wide range of small electrical items that can be recycled.
“These include hairdryers, DIY equipment like drills and sanders, gadgets and toys, gardening equipment such as lawnmowers and strimmers, plus kitchen and homeware items.
“These could include kettles, food mixers and irons.
“I would urge the public to take any of these items to their local Household Recycling Centre during Recycle Week.”
Research shows that many smaller electrical items like toasters and electric toothbrushes are perceived as ‘lesser value’ items and we either throw them away with the general household rubbish or as in the case of three out of four us, leave them to gather dust in the loft or the garage.
