The event, which is to be run in the streets of Gloucester on the 19 June, was launched in the City yesterday. With stands mounted at The Cross, Eastgate Shopping Centre, the Cancer Research UK shop, GL1 and the Cathedral promoting it, Kelly Rumble, event manager, said that there had been a relly good response and many had signed-up already.
Women of all abilities can take part and as well as running people can jog or walk the course. In 2010, Gloucester women helped raise £90,911. This year, Cancer Research UK hopes 2,600 women will enter the Race for Life at Gloucester city centre, and help hit a new target of £168,445.
Three people are diagnosed with cancer every hour and when When the Race for Life started in 1994, many people diagnosed with cancer did not survive. Since then, money generated by the fundraising has supported Cancer Research UK’s work and now more people are beating the disease than ever before.
