Prosecution For Dog Fouling Sends Out A Clear Message.

A dog owner has had to fork out more than £500 for failing to clear up after his pet had fouled a footpath, thus sending out a clear message to irresponsible owners.

While most people know that the greatest majority of dog owners are responsible people who care about the environment; Councillor Steve Morgan, cabinet member for the environment has confirmed that local residents have stated that they want to see tougher action on dog fouling. As such they won’t hesitate to prosecute thoughtless owners. Dog fouling carries with it the risk of disease. This offence took place in a busy area of the city well used by parents with young children.

The man from Westgate was given an ‘on-the-spot fine ‘ when a council officer spotted him allowing his dog to foul in Eastgate Street. The man refused to clear up the mess and was issued with a fine. When the fine wasn’t paid he was summonsed to appear in Gloucester Magistrates Court on Friday (February 18). He failed to turn up and in his absence magistrates fined him £350 with £150 costs and a victim surcharge of £15.
