Afternoon mix – a little bit of everything from Funk to soul, Reggae to Jazz, plus a few stops inbetween.

Writing, reading and watching films so that I can steal ideas and try to pass them off as my own. Reading a lot around sports injuries and the possible effects of steroids at the moment for a documentary I'm looking to shoot next year.

Grew up listening to a lot of funk, soul and Michael Jackson courtesy of my Dad's record collection. First film I remember watching all the way through was Moonwalker, still the greatest film of all time, even if slightly odd. Michael Jackson settled the debate of who the greatest entertainer of all time was in my eyes the moment he turned into a robot and started shooting rockets and lasers at everybody. To this day I use that as my criteria. How many times did you see the Beatles turn into laser shooting robots? Guns and Roses? Amy Winhouse?! I don't think so. If he doesn't turn into a robot at the O2, I'm going to be severely disappointed.

I do also listen to music from people who don't turn into cars or giant robots, I'm especially into early 90's hip hop, blues and rock music. Recently have been getting more into Jazz and Reggae as well. Basically I'll give pretty much anything a go, although I tend to go for older stuff. Don't really know why, I guess it just feels much more honest and authentic than a lot of today's stuff.

I did a lot of radio stuff at uni as well as hosting a show on college radio with a friend of mine, which was a lot of fun. Was talking to a mate of mine when I got back home who started telling me about a radio station in Gloucester that was playing a lot of good stuff, so I tuned in one night, listened to Mizzi do his thing and really liked what I heard, and thought it would be something fun to get involved with.

Surviving Mexico city, despite my only knowledge of Spanish coming from Fawlty Towers, Rico Suave and Ricky Martin.

Getting paid to either write scripts, play music or make documentaries, or if I'm lucky all 3 at once!

Pusherman – Curtis Mayfield (introduced me to the idea of a musical high)
Smooth Criminal – Michael Jackson (never could do that lean)
Jenifa taught me this – De La Soul (“But Dad” I remember asking, “why is she a garden tool?” He never did answer that question...)

It's pretty unique to have something like GFM that's from the people for the people. I feel lucky to be able to be a part of it, and I hope you like what you hear :)
