A lifeline has been thrown to unemployed young people at Coney Hill.
“The Vibe” youth club is running a ‘Job-Club’ on a daily basis from 3-00 till 5-00.
If people want o find out more about the course or to sign up, contact Candy Hughes (Senior Youth Worker) on 01452 528363.
Candy Hughes successfully applied for a £1,134 grant from the Gloucester Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, which will keep this facility running until 31st. March.
Candy states that there is a need for something like this in the area, vindicated by the fact that there are already about 10 youngsters attending. Young people in the area want to work but there is no support available locally.
She is hoping people will step up and offer to support this venture.
Candy asks
“If there are any organisations out there who can help these kids, then I would love for them to get in touch.”
She added that some young people here haven’t even got the money to travel to the job centre, some young people don’t claim because they don’t know what they are entitled to and they need steering and guidance to help them with all aspects of training, education and employment.
Young people using the Job Club confirmed how vital this service is to them. As well as the reinforcement in the skills of letter and CV writing, the boost in confidence in getting this support, which also includes mock interviews, is invaluable. Also having this facility ‘on their doorstep’ saving the need to travel on the bus into town enabled them to make full use of it.
