New Garden Waste Collection Service (sign up now for 6 months discount!)

During recent consultation 67 per cent said they were happy to pay a small charge to receive the service. So from 4th april 2011, a chargeable garden waste collection service willcome into force.  This will include those who do not presently recieve the service, provided there is unhindered access to the property and sufficient storage space
The new service costs £36 a year, but for those in reciept of Council Tax Benefit or Housing Benefit the cost is only £18.
Also discounts are available for those signing up early.
* sign up April 2011 – renewal 1st October 2012 (6 months free)
* sign up May 2011 – renewal 1st October 2012 (5 months free)
* sign up June 2011 – renewal 1st October 2012 (4 months free)

For the duration of the subscription, you will have a 240 litre green wheeled bin for your garden waste which will be emptied every fortnight, all year round, excluding two weeks over the Christmas period.

Steve Morgan, cabinet member for the environment, Gloucester City Council said: “Residents have told the council their garden waste collection is important to them and they would prefer to receive a similar or improved service for a small fee, rather than a change to the service provided.”
“The new service is completely optional and residents can still take their garden waste to the recycling centre at Hempsted, or preferably compost it at home.”
