Shoppers say that they will be staying in the city to do their Christmas shopping this year.
Others are travelling in from further afield including Newent to take advantage of the increrasing number of different shops this year.
City Council leader Paul James said that the decrease in empty shops together with greater variety on offer was good news for the City.
Many people are happy to spend what they have in Gloucester, there is increased confidence in the city and the more people that do this the better it is for the city.
Money spent in the city goes into the local economy and will help maintain or even create employment opportunities for local people.
