EVERY child in care deserves a safe supportive and loving home, regardless of the individual merits of their cases.
This applies equally to children who get abandoned by people traffickers on the Gloucestershire borders. They become the legal responsibility of the council.
There are currently 36 unaccompanied asylum seeking children (UASC) in care in the county and a further 32 UASC care leavers still receiving support from the council.
Many of the young people are Muslim, so the county council is particularly keen to find Muslim families to foster them.
Mary Moore from Gloucester has fostered around 18 boys from all over the world over the last eight years.
Mary loves caring for the boys. She said: “I love having young people around. I always have this feeling it could be my children alone in another country and I hope there would be someone there to look after them. These kids need somebody and there aren’t many carers who want to foster asylum seekers.”
