Moving tributes were paid to an “inspirational” police officer who put her heart and soul into the job.
Hundreds of mourners packed into Gloucester Cathedral yesterday for the funeral of PC Lynn Aston, a beat officer from Churchdown who died this month after a brave battle with cancer.
Wearing traditional police tunics, with black jackets and polished silver buttons, the great and the good of Gloucestershire’s force turned out to give her a rousing send off.
“The job of being a community police officer was made for her. There was no aspect of community life she was not involved in. Whether it was the drunks or the street sellers – she knew them all. She was truly inspirational.” (Former chief constable Dr Tim Brain)
Chief constable Tony Melville paid special tribute to Lynn’s tireless work in the community, which led her to be named Gloucestershire Beat Officer of the Year in 2009.
