A MAJOR police operation to crack down on drivers breaking the law saw fines worth £1,500 dished out to 50 unsuspecting motorists.
Officers staged a crackdown in Cheltenham Road, Longlevens, yesterday by pulling drivers off the road and into The Double Gloucester pub car park. During the three-hour session, which started shortly after 8.30am, they stopped drivers for speeding, not wearing seat belts, talking on their mobile phones, and having vehicle defects.
During the morning 50 drivers were pulled over, and the top recorded speed on the road, which has a 30mph limit, was 37mph.
