Accident units are reporting a surge in injuries, not only broken ankles and wrists but also more serious ones e.g. hip fractures. Equally, it’s not only vulnerable people who are becoming a casualty of the weather, this weather is taking it’s toll throughout the community.
Head of communications Yvonne Pirso said: “We are seeing a lot of young fit people coming in who have fallen and injured themselves – a couple have had serious injuries like hip fractures”. “If people do have to go out, they should try to make sure they are wearing sensible footwear and if they have got walking poles they should use them.”
