Early Diagnosis Is Saving Lives In Gloucestershire!

March is prostate cancer awareness month and NHS Gloucestershire is urging men to get to know what’s normal for their body and get checked out by a GP if they notice any unexplained or persistent changes. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK.

The good news, however, is that more men are surviving the disease, despite incidence rates increasing both locally & nationally
African Caribbean men are three times more likely to get prostate cancer than white men of the same age.
Consultant in public health at NHS Gloucestershire Dr Sola Aruna, said: “In the 1970s only two out of 10 men diagnosed with prostate cancer survived their disease for at least 10 years. Now it is nearly seven in 10.”
“Survival from prostate cancer is strongly related to the stage of the disease at diagnosis.”

Some of the early signs and symptoms of prostate cancer include difficulty passing urine, passing urine more frequently than usual, especially at night, and pain when passing urine.
