Charity shops across the county have been dressing up their windows to encourage people to re-use unwanted items.
As part of Gloucestershire County Council’s Waste Reduction Challenge, which took place between November 20th to 28th, charity shops were asked to come up with an innovative window display which reflected reuse and living a ‘green’ lifestyle.
The challenge asked people to sign up to one of ten pledges – one of which was, ‘take my good quality unwanted items to a charity shops’ and the displays were aimed at promoting this pledge.
Sixteen shops entered the ‘charity shop challenge’ and the overall winner is Sue Ryder Care in Stow-on-the-Wold.
Highly commended awards go to Sue Ryder Care in Cheltenham High Street and Emmaus in Nailsworth.
Cllr Stan Waddington, cabinet member for environment and waste, said: “The standard of entries was very impressive.
“A lot of time and effort has gone into producing imaginative window displays which reflect a reuse theme.
“Charity shops play a vital role in selling on good quality second hand items, which might have otherwise gone to landfill, as well as raising much needed funds for worthwhile causes.
“I would like to thank every shop that took part.”
