Gloucester City Council and Severn Wye Energy Agency have been working together to ensure that residents stay both warm and well but also take greater control of their energy usage.
Work by the charity National Energy Action suggests that households pay an extra 29p a day to heat their homes for every one degree drop below the average temperature. The Met Office tell us that the temperature has been approximately four degrees lower than average – the sums suggest that energy bills for December alone may be £35 higher than normal.
For top tips on how to reduce your energy consumption around the home, without reducing your comfort, look through SWEA’s ’39 steps to save energy in your home’ www.swea.co.uk/downloads/39_Steps.pdf where you will find all sorts of ideas or contact the Energy Savings Trust Advice Centre on 0800 512 012 for energy advice and information on the Gloucestershire Warm and Well Scheme.
