Interests & Hobbies

Top of the list has got to be radio, but apart from that another interest I have, has got to be the history of Gloucester- there is some much to see and do in the city.

One my favourite events on the Gloucestershire calendar has got to be the Cheese Rolling event at Coopers Hill, it has got to be one of the most randomest events I’ve ever been too- I can tell you it’s steep and does hurt!

Musical Background / History

How did it all begin for me in Radio? I went along to a well established radio station open day, basically saw what was going on and just thought- ‘I think I’ll like to do this!’

I have always had a passion for radio and I just get a buzz out of it when I pull that fader up.

So, I then started annoying many station managers across the county with demo CD’s and landed a small job with a local independent station which sadly is no longer with us.

After leaving the station, I was told by another broadcaster to go and do some work for GFM, I had only listened to the station briefly during when GFM was running as a 28-Day RSL station.

I eventually gave GFM a call and said I could offer a few hours a week and they said Yes!

I started at GFM, as a Community Reporter. This involved going out into the community and getting the issues and talk that weren’t being focused on by the other stations. I then took over Monday’s afternoon slot and as they say the rest is history!

As well as working with the team at GFM, I’m also a freelancer, working for stations such as Total Star 107.5, BBC Local Radio stations and other stations across the West and UK.

I’m also a Voice Over artist and can be heard on various radio stations, televison adverts, websites, documentaries and even call centres- Yes, I’m that annoying automated voice that tell’s to you to Press 1…..

I also write for numerous newspapers and magazines in the Gloucestershire area too.

And… I’m a huge radio anorak too! Me and Jerry Hipkiss can always be heard anoraking away in the GFM studios. Have you got any old tapes with old radio shows on them? Don’t want them anymore? I’ll have em’!

How did you get involved in GFM?

I had heard some of the summer broadcasts that GFM were producing, and I loved the fact that it really was a station focusing on Gloucester and the community. I gave the station a call, was invited in for an interview and was told can I start next Tuesday.

Achievements

Managing to make it ‘On Air’, I have worked with some of the best presenters and DJ’s in the business and have had the pleasure of interviewing fantastic celebrities such as Lily Allen, Dr. Hilary Jones, James May, Richard Hammond, Heston Blumenthal, Zoe Salmon, Myleene Klass and many more.

Musical Aspirations

To make sure that GFM continues to broadcast forever and remain as the county’s ONLY 100% Local Station!

Most influential tracks

I wouldn’t day these are influential but these are a few of my favourite tracks:

Alexandra O’Neal- Criticize

The Specials- Message To You Ruddy

Chaka Khan- Ain’t Nobody

Message to GFM Community

Stayed locked and keep on supporting the truly local station in Gloucestershire!

Join me every Monday from 1pm across Gloucestershire on 96.6fm & Online, and for all those who ask… what’s the shows name all about? Back in the day on Severn Sound, Laura De Vere presented her show ‘The Afternoon Affair’ and so I’d thought I would carry on the name…..
