Before the demolition of the former Clutch Clinic site City council heritage staff worked with a large group of volunteers to trace and record the history and uses of the site at the Southgate Street triangle. Much information was uncovered and now the scheme is in a short list of three for the Marsh Archaeology Award run by the Council for British Archaeology. The award recognises voluntary groups and individuals who have worked to promote access to the historic environment. The award winners will be announced at the British Academy in London next Monday (March 7)
Councillor Martyn White has aid that he is pleased that recognition has been given to the enthusiastic residents who got involved and the engagement work that heritage staff undertake. he added, “We are very proud of both the team and the project group for their achievement.”
The site is to become the home of the new Language Immersion Centre.
