Children Take The Lead In Matson

Matson Junior Wardens, also known as the Cool Kidz Crew, have initiated the installation of new benches in matson Park. On a recent walkabout in Matson, the Junior Wardens, who are from Robinswood Primary School, highlighted the need for more benches in the park.

PCSO Chris Jenkinson, who helps mentor the youngsters, said: “It’s great to see that the wardens’ ideas and suggestions are being acted on and that the community can see value in their suggestions. Lisa Howarth, from Gloucester City Homes, which funds the Junior Wardens, said: “We are proud of our Junior Wardens and in particular their commitment to the Matson and Robinswood community.”

The Junior wardens scheme encourages children to take a pride in their community and become more involved,as well as taking a pride in their environment and themselves.
They often accompany PCSOs or parents on ‘walkabouts’ to identify local issues and it was on one of these that they highlighted the need for the two benches. The idea was presented to the Matson and Robinswood Tenants’ Association who agreed and acted on the proposals.
Liam Kelch from the group said that it was fantastic to get the input from the youngsters who are doing ‘such a great job’
