Future scientists, engineers and mathematicians will have the chance to develop their skills at a special event next week.
Thirty-six Diploma students from Gloucester secondary schools and Gloucestershire College will work with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Ambassadors from local businesses on a project that will form part of their qualification.
The students will be asked to investigate a topic that really interests them which will help them to gain essential skills which are vital for them to take their place in an increasingly competitive global economy.
These include idea innovation, project planning, conducting research, gathering information, engaging in data analysis and evaluating outcomes.
Cllr Jackie Hall, Cabinet Member for Schools, said: “The skills the students will gain from this opportunity will be invaluable and stand them in excellent stead whether they pursue further education, higher education, an Apprenticeship or employment.”
Simon Kettle from STEMworks in Gloucestershire is excited to be involved with the new Diplomas.
He said: “STEMworks exists to create opportunities to inspire young people in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
“I am delighted to be able to make possible stronger links between schools and STEM Ambassadors – local industrialists who are eager to share their experience of science and technology with schools, and in this case, to inspire project ideas amongst the Diploma students.”
The event will be held on Tuesday 18th May at Gloucester Rugby Club.
All of the schools are part of G15, a partnership of all secondary schools in Gloucester city and Gloucestershire College.
