Birmingham Residents Asked To Keep An Eye Out For Missing Cheltenham Man

Gloucestershire Police are asking Birmingham residents to help trace a missing train enthusiast who may have travelled to the area.

Peter Luker, 70, was last seen at his home address in the Hester’s Way area of Cheltenham at around 9.50am on Tuesday July 6, and was reported missing by his wife at 3.45pm.

After an extensive search and a public appeal Mr Luker remains missing and officers believe he may have left the region.

Following two possible sightings in Birmingham police are asking residents to keep an eye out for the pensioner, who may have travelled there pursuing his interest in trains.

There was a possible sighting of Mr Luker at Brineley Place, off Broad Street in Birmingham, at around 1pm on Saturday July 10. A member of the public reported seeing a man who matched Mr Luker’s poster.

On Thursday July 8 a train was searched at Birmingham New Street station but without uncovering Mr Luker.

Det Chef Insp Marc Flannery, of Gloucestershire Police said: “We know that he is interested in trains and there is a possibility that he has visited New Street Railway station. He is also interested in older engines so may wish to go to somewhere like the Severn Valley Railway.

“We no longer believe Mr Luker is in the local area given the extent of our search and our public appeal. There is a suggestion he may have gone to Birmingham. Therefore we are asking people in the West Midlands area who may have seen him to contact police.

“We remain very concerned for Mr Luker’s welfare, he has been missing for a significant amount of time and understandably his family are really worried about him.”

Peter is described as around 5ft tall with white hair.

When he was last seen he was wearing a short sleeved yellow shirt, beige coat and beige trousers.

Anyone with any information about Mr Luker’s whereabouts is asked to contact Gloucestershire Constabulary on 0845 090 1234 quoting incident number 298 of July 6.
