Big Community: Seven Groups Get Go-Ahead (Youth Services)

Cllr Will Windsor-Clive, Cabinet Member for Communities, has today decided that the county council will progress seven business cases submitted by community groups looking to run local services and activities from youth centre buildings. They will each now receive a £5000 grant to help turn their plans into reality and will be granted temporary tenancy of the buildings until longer terms leases are formally completed.

“A great deal of hard work has gone into these plans from everyone involved, and we look forward to continuing to work closely with these groups as they look to turn their plans into reality, in many cases enhancing the services already available.” (Cllr Will Windsor-Clive, Cabinet Member for Communities.)

Youth service decisions cover the following locations:

  • Bishop’s Cleeve
  • Churchdown
  • Newent
  • Quedgeley
  • Tetbury
  • Winchcombe
  • Bourton-on-the-Water

The council will work on the finer detail of the business cases for Chequers Bridge Youth Centre in Gloucester, Lydney Youth Centre and Cinderford Youth Centre and it is confident these will progress later in the summer. A decision on the Hesters Way Partnership’s business case to run a joint library and youth centre has been deferred. As a result of a court order, any decisions taken with regards library buildings will not be implemented until the conclusion of related legal proceedings.
