Tributes were last night paid to 14 year old Quedgeley schoolgirl Charlotte James, who has died after what is believed to have been a horse riding accident. Charlotte, who was described as a “model student”, suffered severe chest injuries from the incident, which happened last Wednesday evening. An inquest had been opened into her death on November 26 and had been adjourned for about six months.
Friends and fellow pupils from Severn Vale School set off balloons and lanterns in her memory outside the school on Monday. More than 100 youngsters flocked to the event to pay their respects. Tributes to Charlotte have also flooded onto social networking site Twitter.
Severn Vale head teacher Peter Rowland said the school had been “deeply saddened” by the news and support was being offered to pupils. Staff and pupils affected have been encouraged to visit Gloucestershire County Council’s website for support and advice at www.gloucestershire.gov.uk.
Charlotte’s funeral service will take place at St James’ Church, in Quedgeley, tomorrow at 11am. Family flowers only are requested. Donations may be sent instead to the County Air Ambulance Trust or Winston’s Wish.

He said: “The student concerned, a Year 10 girl, was a model student, admired and respected by fellow students and staff alike. First and foremost, however, our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this most difficult time.
